Pictures

I thought this was a cute picture of Rylee and Morgan from Cameron's last soccer game. Rylee sure loves Morgan and the feeling is mutual.

First picture of the oooehy gooey mess from the marshmallows.

Here is the picture of her hands. She wasn't real cooperative with these pictures - she kept trying to stick her hands on her face and her hair. Go figure.

Husbands, Marshmallows, Scooby Doo, etc.

Bryan has been gone since Sunday. He is at a conference in San Francisco for his job. He was late to his flight on Sunday and so he had to wait for several hours at the airport in Springfield to see if he could catch the next flight to Chicago. He finally arrived in San Francisco at 11:00 pm pacific time so he had been traveling for many hours that day. I hope that it is worth it for him.

Our fridge has been leaking for the past week and a half. I wasn't sure why, I kept thinking the kids were spilling something on the floor in front of it. It's not fun having kitchen carpet, I hate it, in fact. At one time we were going to have lineolum installed, but after they came and gave us a bid, we decided that was something we were going to have to wait on. I love what Bryan says when I tell him that the fridge is leaking - "How do you know that it is leaking?" Just typing that now, makes me feel like I did as I told him that over the phone, I wanted to reach my hands through the phone line to San Francisco and put my hands around his neck and choke him :) How do you think that I knew it was leaking? What kind of a question is that? Sometimes. I could go on and on about my husband, but rest assured, I do love him even when he drives me crazy.

It's been so much fun taking Carson and Morgan on the paper route with me. Actually they have been well behaved thus far. We only have one more morning to do the route before Bry gets home. I thought I might have to bag today because of rain, but I was spared that inconvenence. The weather is supposed to be clear through the end of the week.

I was talking on the phone today to my sister, Michelle, and Carson came in my bedroom covered in sticky, wet marshmallows. I distinctivelly remember seeing her in the kitchen eating the marshmallows from a bag - I figured that was a good lunch and I wasn't going to disturb her. I didn't know she could make such a mess. When I went to check on the shape of the kitchen, Morgan was in the middle of the floor with marshmallows all around him - in heaven, soaking up each sugar-coated nugget as fast as he could. Of course, I had to take pictures.

I really think that Carson is addicted to Scooby Doo. Every morning, every afternoon, every night, that is all she asks to watch. Unfortunately we have rented all the movies from the library that are Scooby Doo and we only have one DVD. I have a feeling I'm going to have to purchase some more because I'm tired of the one DVD we have. I do record an episode daily, but she watches them at least 3-4 times before the next one is recorded. Yes, I am a bad mom. Some days she watches television more than she should. I have to have my sanity somehow.

Well, I am a procrastinator. I am in a book club through our church Relief Society and we meet tommorrow night. Have I read the book yet? NO! Have I started it? Yes, just today. It seems like it will be a good book, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn". When Bryan's mom was here she started reading it and said it was good. I don't know if she finished it. I do need to find a really good book that I can have the group read when it's my turn. So if anyone has suggestions, please let me know.

Ice Cream and Some Jordan Ramblings

Well, I've survived the past couple of days. I don't know if I'm just tired, cranky or otherwise just in a foul mood, but I'm glad that it is the weekend. It has definitely been hot around here. I'm talking the weather now. Today right now as I type it is 89 degrees and it's 5:00 pm. It's the middle of September. Isn't it supposed to be cooler by now?

One good thing - I finally returned our Netflix after a week and a half. We had a damaged movie plus we had a SpongeBob DVD that the kids watched the first day we got it. Yet I was unable for a whole week and a half to find the white case to return it in, so we haven't had any new movies for a while. The next two in the queue are specifically for me :) happy day! and they will arrive tomorrow. I am going to put my kids to bed early tmw night and have me a movie fest. It's been a long time since I've done that. I'm even going to eat microwave popcorn. Now that's living on the edge, isn't it?

Yesterday, it was another hot day as I picked up the kids from school. I decided there wouldn't be many days left like that so I stopped at our favorite ice cream shop in Pawnee, Krekels - okay, it's the only one, but it still is a favorite - and we got ice cream cones. As I handed them out to the kids, Morgan had this look on his face like he had to have one, he wasn't going to be left out of the fun. So I scooped off the top into a cup for myself and gave him the cone. First time and he went to town on the that cone. It was a chocolate/vanilla swirl ice cream cone. He first licked around the edges until there wasn't any ice cream left. Then he would poke his fingers in the middle of the cone where the ice cream was and put his finger in his mouth. It was quite comical. He was so incredibly happy, too. It was a nice way to celebrate his 11 month birthday. Yes, my baby is going to be a year soon. I can't believe how fast this year has gone by.

Jordan, Jordan, Jordan. Let's see. A couple of years ago for Christmas, Rylee gave her brother these arm bands that say #1 Brother. They are green and look like the ones you wear when you exercise, so the sweat doesn't roll all over your hands. He insists upon wearing them all the time. I mean in all kinds of weather, rain, snow, shine, hot, hot, hot, cold, cold, cold, in the house, outside, in a swimming pool, it doesn't matter. He wears them. Even though it looks kind of geeky, we have finally convinced him that he needs to at least take them off once a week to be washed. Yes, this is his autism showing through. Anyway, yesterday when I picked him up from school, he had taken a string off of the arm bands and tied it around the middle section of his glasses, the part right above his nose. I'm not sure what that area of the glasses is called. When I calmly asked him WHY? he had that string wrapped around the center, he answered, "Well, Marci, you know that leprechaun day in March? It always catches me by surprise, and I just want to be prepared!". I about fell off the chair which isn't a good idea when you are supposed to be driving.

Let me just say that Jordan is full of surprises. Some will make you laugh so hard you could wet yourself and others are so frustrating that you just want to cry. There have been plenty of crying moments. It's all in a day of dealing with Autism. Jordan is also so sweet and funny. We are lucky to have him in our family.

BTW, when I picked up the kids from school today, I had doughnuts for the kids and Jordan passed on having one. I figured something was up with him because he NEVER passes up a doughnut. I took a nap as soon as we got home and Cameron woke me up to let me know that Jordan had just thrown up all over the kitchen floor. Lovely. So he didn't escape our illness, he was just late to the game.

One more for today and then I promise I am done!

I just found this story on one of my lists. LOVE IT!

"The Invisible Mother"

I'm invisible.......It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, "Can't you see I'm on the phone?" Obviously not. No one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible.

Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this? Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, "What time is it?" I'm a satellite guide to answer, "What number is the Disney Channel?" I'm a car to order, "Pick me up right around 5:30, please."I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated summa cum laude -- but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going ... she's going ... she's gone!

One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England . Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself as I looked down at my out-of-style dress;it was the only thing I could find that was clean. My unwashed hair was pulled up in a clip and I was afraid I could actually smell peanut butter in it. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, "I brought you this." It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe . I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription: "To Charlotte, with admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees."

In the days ahead I would read -- no, devour -- the book. And I would discover what would become for me, life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work. No one can say who built the great cathedrals-- we have no record of their names. These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.

A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, "Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it." And the workman replied, "Because God sees."

I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, "I see you, Charlotte. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become."At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride. I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.

When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, "My mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand-bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table." That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, "You're gonna love it there."

As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.

It's Wednesday!

Well, no one is sick at our house anymore! Yipee! We are all happy about that one. Jordan managed to escape the throngs of sickness, he must have some lucky health gene he isn't sharing with the rest of us. I don't know if it's because I slept so much while I was sick or if I have a lot on my mind, but the past two nights I have been unable to fall asleep very well - Monday night I didn't go to bed until after 11 pm. Last night I tried to go to bed earlier (around 10:30 pm) but Mr. Morgan decided that wasn't going to happen, so between tossing and turning and hearing him cry, I finally gave him to Bryan at 1 am and tried to get some sleep before I went on the paper route. I heard my alarm ring at 3:30 am and hit the snooze button. I suddenly woke up at 4:10 am in a panic, hoping I hadn't slept too late. After hearing my alarm ring so many times - every 10 minutes, Carson was awake and definitely going on the paper route with me. We were both so tired when we got home, we went back to sleep and didn't wake up until 7:10 am. Luckily, the kids got ready fast this morning and we weren't even rushed taking them to school. I still am dragging, my house is a disaster and all I want to do is sleep some more. Hopefully, I can get some energy to make it through today and tonight I can sleep better.

Another Carson story - Bryan loves the song, "Fishin' in the Dark" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and he has played it over and over for the kids when he is driving them somewhere. Jordan, Rylee and Cameron know the words to the song pretty well. Every time we get in the van to go ANYWHERE, they will request that song be played over and over, etc. Well, now they have Carson doing the same thing. Funny thing is that for the last couple of days, she thought the song was "Fishin' in the dog". I tried to tell her numerous times that was NOT the title of the song. She did not believe me. Amazingly enough, as soon as Rylee told her what the correct title of the song was, she now calls it "Fishin' in the Daawwk". There are lots of funny stories about her right now since it seems her vocabulary has just exploded over the past 3-4 months.

Morgan is almost 11 months. I was thinking yesterday that soon he will be on whole milk, no more formula, yeah! It hasn't been too expensive anyway, we buy his formula at Sam's Club. It is $19.38 a can and these cans are more than two of the big cans at Walmart, plus much cheaper. It is the same brand as Parent's Choice formula and it works wonderfully well. We have had no problems whatsoever with it. I was buying his diapers at Sam's also and they do work really well; however, I just prefer Pampers, so that's what I've been buying the past month and a half. I did buy a pack of the new Luvs diapers with the stretchy waistband and they work pretty well. I might start buying them. Gosh, isn't my life just so exciting? Just reading this makes me want to cry knowing that I can write an epistle on diapers and formula :(

Yet I will forge ahead and be happy for my season in life and enjoy it all that I can. And end with a quote I read in a book the other day -

"Children should not be seen as interruptions to the main thing of life; they are the main thing."

More sick kids

Rylee and Cameron arrived on our doorstep at 7:00 am because they both have caught what Carson and Morgan had. (We knew they were coming last night - Rylee started getting sick after church yesterday and then Cameron joined in about 10:00 pm.) So instead of going to school this morning, they get to come to our house. Luckily, they are both done throwing up :) That's my only consolation. Now Jordan is the only one who isn't sick. Hopefully he won't get it!

Dinner

Tonight at dinner, Carson requested her "Princess Plate". Here is the conversation:

Mommy: Who are the princesses, Carson?

Carson: Cinderella....

Mommy: and Sleeping Beauty?

Carson: No Mommy, she is not sleeping, she is awake!

We are sick :(

Morgan started it! Poor kid. He got sick first, Thursday night on our trip home from southern Illinois. Friday he was sick most of the day. Carson woke up 1:00 am on Friday night/Saturday morning throwing up. I was in bed with her and it was NOT a good way to be woken up. She did her business until 6:00 am, managing to dirty about three loads of laundry along the way. Man, was I thrilled. Then as soon as she fell back to sleep at 6:30 am, I started to feel sick and was in the throws of it all day - until about 6:30 last night when I was able to take some ibuprofen to hep with my terrible headache and fever. I luckily did not throw up but I had the accompanying problem of it coming out the other end. I was also very nauseous most of the day and that finally subsided. Both Carson and Morgan were also starting to feel better last night - we all got hopped up on medicine and feel asleep rather peacefully. Then this morning, poor Bryan started on the same path we had just been on. Hopefully Bryan's parents don't get sick. They have one more day with us. I will feel really awful if they do get sick...

Our trip south and Scooby-Doo

Bryan's parents are here visiting us this week. It's been fun having them here and hopefully they have been able to see a few of the sites around the Springfield area. Yesterday we traveled to Southern Illinois and visited Garden of the Gods. We also visited Cave-in-Rock which Bryan's parents told us about and it turned out to be a really cool place to visit. Garden of the Gods is located at the southern tip of Illinois in the Shawnee National Forest. There are a few really small towns around it - Herod, Hartsville, Gross and Hicks. I'm not kidding about those names. It's also close to the Ohio Scenic Byway where Cave-in-Rock is located. And guess what? That's also the name of the town, Cave-in-Rock. It's zip code is 62919. Carson was a terror at Garden of the Gods, she DID NOT want to walk at all. Morgan was in a backpack and he did very well. We then went to Cave-in-Walk where she was an absolute delight. We had to climb up and down several sets of stairs which she did all by herself. When we walked into the cave, she again, did it all by herself. We walked to the back of the cave and then on our way out, she kept saying, "Mom, it's dangerous!" "Be careful, Mom". She was making me laugh. I thought it was so cute. It was a long drive down there - we left at 8 am in the morning and didn't return home last night until 11:30 pm. Needless to say, today hasn't been very productive. Bryan's parents went to the Lincoln Library and we are home.

Morgan wasn't feeling well last night, he threw up several times on the way home and again this morning. So he is taking a long nap. I gave him some Motrin and some Pedialyte and he finally fell asleep.

Yesterday, in anticipation of a long trip, we took our DVD player and lots of DVD's - Sponge Bob, Dora and a pup named Scooby Doo. Yes, I only took one Scooby Doo and wouldn't you know that is the ONLY one that Carson wanted to watch. We had several melt downs because not only did I only bring one, I brought the WRONG one! She does not like "A pup named Scooby Doo", just the original episodes that came out before I was even born! I had no idea.

Then when we were about 40 miles from home, Bryan was too tired to finish driving so I took over. AGAIN, the melt down began and lasted until we were about 7 miles from our home. Carson was so mad that I was driving. She kept crying, "Mommy, I want to drive," "Mommy, I can't sit by Daddy." "Mommy, please stop driving and come sit by me." And along with the crying was an occasional screaming fit, even high-pitched screams to go along with her fit. I remained calm, most of the time but that was so difficult to drive and not pull over and just get in the back with her and have someone else drive. Needless to say, she continued her whining/melt down state when we arrived home because I slept in Morgan's room since he was throwing up and I wanted to be close in case he was choking, so she had to sleep with her Dad. It was a very long evening.

Today, she is perfectly fine, although, she has just watched Scooby Doo most of the day. Do you think that she is addicted? Hmmm, maybe. Do you think we needed the break? Most definitely :)

The Lion King

I absolutely love the movie, "The Lion King". I love the deeper meaning of the movie. Thought I'd post some of my favorite quotes:
"Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars....So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. And so will I."
"You have forgotten who you are and so have forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place in the Circle of Life."
"Remember who you are. You are my son and the one true king."
That's what I want for my children. To have them always remember who they are, where they came from and what they can become. We have the book and Carson loves me to read it to her at night before she goes to sleep.

Carson's Birthday

Carson is now officially three years old! Boy is she full of it, too! She has soooooooo much energy, it just makes me tired thinking about it.

Here is her cake - she decided she wanted a princess cake, so that is what we ordered. I love the cupcake birthday cakes, they are so easy to serve and to me, not as messy as a regular cake.

Here we are gathered around the table, before Carson blew out the candles. Notice that Jordan is now taller than me. Okay, that's not such a difficult feat :) however, he is many years younger than me and now a wee bit taller.

Here is my big girl attempting to blow out the candles. She finally was able to do it, not accounting for the all the extra moisture that settled on the cake from her "blowing" out the candles.

Notice her blue mouth from the frosting. This is after she opened her presents and ate cake.

This is the next morning, eating a healthy breakfast of chocolate cupcake. Bryan is in charge of breakfast on Saturday mornings. It reminded us of that old Bill Cosby recording, "Chocolate Cake for Breakfast" and remember the conniption fit. Don't really know how to spell that one.

Happy 3rd Anniversary

I have been awake since 3:45 am and busy since I woke up. I did the paper route and then went on my "Walk with Leslie" for 30 minutes. I did the 2 Mile Walk Brisk CD , it's from the Express Series. I love it! I always feel better when I take a walk with Leslie in the mornings. I just looked at her http://www.walkawaythepounds.com/ website and it shows her new product, the "Walkblaster". Going to have to get me one of those.

We took the kids to school this morning, then ran errands and ended up at Walmart. Carson and Morgan were so good for me. I love going shopping in the morning after I drop the older kids off because usually the store is pretty empty and I can get through there fast. That always helps too when I'm trying to limit how much money I spent. I ordered a cake for Carson's birthday. Yes, I'm a bad mom because I don't even attempt to make a cake for the kids. I tried the first year we were married and the only reason I was ever successful was because of Dana, she would come over and pretty much do it for me. So I decided that was one thing I wouldn't be good at and so now we get cakes from Walmart. And, I am not ashamed :) I have a busy day to day, I have to pick up the kids from school at 3:15 and won't be back until this evening after YM.

Today is our 3rd anniversary of being sealed in the Nauvoo Temple. I'm so lucky and blessed to be with my husband. I love him very much. We have a wonderful family. I remember that day well. I was very pregnant with Carson and we were in Nauvoo on what was one of the hottest Labor Day weekends ever. It might have been exasperated since I was pregnant, but I felt like it was pretty hot :) The kids were even flushed in some of the pictures, so I know that it was hot, plus the fact that I made them wear long sleeved shirts. Oh, they are so patient with me. It was a great weekend for sure. After we were sealed, Carson decided she could finally make her appearance and my water broke on Labor Day, ironic, eh? Well, it was a good time and the three years have past by tremendously fast.

On the steps of the Nauvoo Temple. Rylee (6), Cameron (3) and Jordan (9). They look so little.

Here is our family again. My face is really flushed :) We were trying to brave the heat and humidity.

Carson's Pre-Birthday Bash at Aunt Michelle's

Carson's Cake - trying to figure out how to blow the candle out. It only took about 7 tries!!

Morgan, Chase, Cole, Ainsley, Carson and Adia - some of the party attendees, but not all. The others not in the photos were Alex, Sammy, Olivia, Abby, Cody, Kaden and Lauson. Also, Mema, Grandma Bell, Aunt Michelle, Aunt Melissa, Aunt Mandee, Jackie and Mommy.

Opening all her presents! She was so excited and loved every single one of them.

Political ramblings...

I have a strict rule that I don't talk politics with anyone except for maybe my husband. The only reason I have this rule is that he, (Bryan, my loving, wonderful husband) will talk politics with anyone and everyone, much to my chagrin. It drives me absolutely crazy. With that being said, I must say this has been a very sad week for this Idahoan who was raised in a wonderful town in southeast Idaho and who still calls Idaho "HOME".

I am amazed that the press can just slaughter a good man's reputation along with a lifetime of dedication and service to his state in about six days. I have been sick all week seeing what has happened to our wonderful Senator Larry Craig. I may sit in the minority here, but I think he was pretty much blackballed and I'm entitled to my opinions. I read a great op-ed piece which sums up a lot of my feelings. The great thing about our country is that I can have my own ideas and feelings on this and no one can take that away from me. I am sad that Larry "had" to resign because of pressure from his party. I am proud that so many Idahoans have stuck by him and continue to support him. It's sad that our previous president who was involved in scandel after scandel was able to stay in office and even more unbelievable that enough stupid people voted to relect him to a second term. And this good, honest and upstanding man will be labeled for the rest of his life for something that happened in entirely six minutes. Yes, six minutes. Read that op-ed piece. Yes, today, I'm a little bit sad.
